The last city in our spotlight series is Gaylord. Located in the center of Northern Michigan, Gaylord is known as the heart of Northern Michigan. This beautiful city has wondrous sites and attractions for you to enjoy on your stop. The most well-known attraction in Gaylord is the Alpine themed business central and shopping district in downtown Gaylord. The downtown area has been transformed into a mock European mountain town and has earned the nickname of “Michigan’s Alpine Village”. Michiganders participating in the six or seven day option will have a chance to explore what the city of Gaylord has to offer.
There are tons of things to do in Gaylord. Those searching for family fun can visit the Otsego County Sportsplex where families can enjoy swimming in an Olympic sized pool, have some “wintertime” fun ice skating or head to the Energy Outlet for some old fashioned playground fun! Others looking to enjoy the historic charm of this town can participate in a walking tour where you’ll be able to visit the Otsego County Historical Museum, various parks in the city and historic landmarks like the Gaylord Car Factory. For those interested in picking up souvenirs, there’s something for everyone in the shops that line the street downtown. These independently owned shops house a variety of unique offerings and souvenirs that will allow you to take a piece of the Alpine Village back home!
Being Michigan’s Alpine Village is not the only title that Gaylord holds. Due to its nationally ranked championship level golf courses, Gaylord has also been named “America’s Summer Golf Mecca”.
